For the past few years I have been creating work as an investigation of the cycles and processes that occur naturally in the Pacific Northwest climate. My efforts examine natural flora and fauna, but are framed by their close proximity to human presence and activity, existing outside direct, intentional human intervention. I have a keen interest and respect for natural processes, and find it interesting how the human environment may limit or provide for certain plants and animals, depending upon our values. I call into question the concept of “cultivation” as well as the definition of “pest,” reflecting upon peoples’ projection of ideals upon their local ecological landscape.
